This is personal to me.
Caring for a daughter with special needs gives Chad a deeper understanding of the planning considerations many families face. That experience led him to earn the Chartered Special Needs Consultant designation and dedicate a meaningful part of his practice to serving families like his own.
Who this is for
Families caring for a loved one with a disability who need to know what happens financially when they are no longer able to provide that care, without jeopardizing the government benefits that loved one depends on.
What These Conversations Are Really About
- Navigating a major life transition without a clear roadmap
- Feeling overwhelmed by the financial complexity of government benefits
- Wanting to protect eligibility for SSI and Medicaid while still planning ahead
- Having felt unsupported or unheard by past advisors
I’ve lived it. I’ve gone through it. I’ve done it. So it doesn’t have to be a scary conversation.

Special Needs Planning Questions We Hear Often
How do I plan financially for my child's future without losing their benefits?
What happens to my child when I'm no longer able to provide care?
Do I need a special needs trust and an advisor, or just an attorney?
Usually both, working together. An attorney handles the legal trust structure and guardianship documents, while a financial advisor coordinates the funding, government benefits considerations, and ongoing financial plan around them.
What is a Chartered Special Needs Consultant (ChSNC®)?
Can my child inherit money directly without losing SSI or Medicaid?
Generally, an inheritance received directly can jeopardize means-tested benefits like SSI and Medicaid. This is why special needs trusts exist, to allow assets to support a dependent without counting against benefit eligibility. Every situation is different, so this is worth reviewing individually.
